Subject:  notice to artists Date: Sun, 23 Sep 2001 18:39:19 -0400

  From: "Ellie Covan" <ecovan@dixonplace.org>
    To:   <ecovan@dixonplace.org>

Dear Artists/Friends of Dixon Place:

In response to the WTC tragedy, we are planning a month long event at
C.U.A.N.D.O., a brilliant space at 9 Second Avenue at Houston Street.
During the month of October, there will be an exhibition of visual art
(including minimal facilities for film and video presentations) as well as
dance, spoken word and music concerts. The event "From the Ashes" opens on
Saturday October 13. Installation will begin October 6.  We invite you to
participate in this event, either by presenting work, or as an observer.

If you are a performance artist, writer, musician or choreographer and would
like to present something in response to the events of the last week, please
contact me, Ellie, at Dixon Place, either by email (ecovan@dixonplace.org)
or call me at 212 532-1546 x102. Please feel free to bring work that is 2-10
minutes in length.

If you are a dancer and would like to participate in Improv nights taking
place every Wednesday, October 3, 10, 17 and 24, contact Patricia Nicholson
at patriciaparker@earthlink.net or call her at 646 602-8658. The Improv
Nights will be for avantjazz musicians and dancers who are interested in
experimenting in this vein.  These events will take place in a gymnasium
with a wood floor (shoes encouraged.) There will be a presentation from
7-8pm, then open improv from 8-10pm. Admission for all events is $3.

If you want to get back to work, but feel unable to focus on projects that
you were in the midst of developing prior to September 11th, I encourage you
to participate.

This event was originally scheduled by Arts for Art (Vision Festival) to
save the C.U.A.N.D.O. Community Arts building which is in danger of
demolition. The space at C.U.A.N.D.O. is a perfect metaphor for the job that
lies ahead in lower Manhattan. Particularly relevant at this time is the
idea of rebuilding, rising out of the ashes/rubble - as we refocus and
rebuild in our hearts and minds.  An essential message coming from art is
the freedom and the power to create anew.
C.U.A.N.D.O. itself was once a community center for the arts.  It has
essentially been closed and neglected for more than ten years.  We are
coming together to revitalize this ruined building .  We invite you to
participate in this effort of renewal with your artwork and if you can,
with your skilled and unskilled volunteer services to help prepare the
building for the October events. We also encourage you to pass along this
information.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I look forward to seeing you all
soon.
Best wishes,
Ellie Covan

The social theory of rock was elaborated by musicologist Theodor Adorno, who
came to the United States in 1939 to head the Princeton University Radio Research
Project. 17 Adorno writes: "In an imaginary but psychologically emotion laden domain, the
listener who remembers a hit song will turn into the song's ideal subject, into the
person for whom the song ideally speaks.  At the same time, as one of many who
identify with that fictitious subject,  that musical I, he will feel his isolation ease as he
himself feels integrated into the community of "fans." In whistling such a song
he bows to a ritual of socialization, although beyond this unarticulated subjective
stirring of the moment his isolation continues unchanged . . .
Addicted conduct generally has a social component: it is one possible reaction to
the atomization which, as sociologists have noticed, parallels the compression
of the social network. Addiction to music on the part of a number of entertainment
listeners would be a similar phenomenon."
The hit parade is organized precisely on the same principles used by Egypt's Isis
priesthood and for the same purpose: the recruitment of youth to the Dionysian
 counterculture.
In a report prepared for the University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research,
Paul Hirsch described the product of Adorno's Radio Research Project.
According to Hirsch, the establishment of postwar
radio's Hit Parade "transformed the mass medium
into an Agency of Sub cultural programming. Radio
networks were converted into round the clock
recycling machines that repeated the top forty hits.
" Hirsch documents how all popular culture movies,
music, books, and fashion is now run on the same
 program of preselection.
Today's mass culture operates like the opium trade:
The supply determines the demand.

This is another site that deals with using various sound
techniques to attain states of altered consciousness.
(The three it deals with arebrainwave entrainment,
harmonic resonance of body parts, and using less
common musical scales.) It also has a plethora of new age
and electronic music links and some
other neat stuff.
Brainwave Entrainment - This site has information on achieving altered
states of consciousness using binaural beats. (A binaural beat is when
two different sounds are piped into the left and right ear respectively.
The difference in frequency between these two sounds creates the
illusion of a third noise, when your brain tries to put everything
together. This brain will mimic the frequency noise with its own
brainwaves, and go to the corresponding mental state associated
 with that frequency.

Brainwave Entrainment Frequencies [by Ray Auxillou] - Yet another
site with information about brainwave entrainment, including a loose
 list of brainwave frequencies
and the mental states associated with them.

Want to relax? Meditate? Learn faster? Focus attention?
Increase your awareness? Try self-hypnosis?

MUSIX
Buzzmachines.Com - "Buzz" is a MOD-style musical sequencer/digital
composer which I find comes in handy for brainwave entrainment and
 creating all sorts of
trancy and weird sound effects. It also happens to be freeware. But,
but, but - if you're not familiar with MOD-style digital composers, don't
even bother -- go down to the Syntrillium Software link, and download
Cooledit - it's more user-friendly and easier to figure out.

Delano's Research Labs/Brainwave Research - This site has a great deal
of information about using soundwaves and blinking lights to bring about
altered states of consciousness and other changes in mental state. It also
has a great chart, which lists all the different brainwave frequencies, and the
 mental states associated with them.

the appetizer

Mag pie is a page kind of a catch all page, all of things I 'm checking out for instance I
may find something good about urban farming assist funds ( green houses ,fish farms
jobs for some friends in enterprise zones ) etc. the farm bill is a early Sunday
morning tv show, topic The Farm Report ( I think ) they were talking about Subsidies
( what else )  and that got me thinking what about a little wells fair for the urban
gardener like me ...
If kids in Kansas can get $500,000 loans from Unlike Sam to grow petunias.

why not the kids in Spofford or the other ghettos?
Or is that reserved for the chosen White kids in the 4H club only ?
A reasonable question but only a drop in the bucket ...

My text

FUN WITH PARANOIA

More mind control stuff. I can't imagine that all of this stuff is true, but just in case
that guy I met 35 years ago skulking around the fringes of the campus in Pasadena CA
was a real victim of the CIA? Nazis etc. with his aluminum pie plate under his wool watch
cap & stinking of "Piss, Paranoia pot & Booz" and ranting like a schizo and dodging invisible
death rays...

Just in case this stuff is or could be real, this page exists for the critical, the ridiculous,
the wholly absurd and the plausible root of such beliefs and, dare I suggest, delusions.
Delusions can be tricky that's why I have a single page for the Uni Bomber Manifesto.

Not Manson or any group leader, just the possible universal unconscious stream of
consciousness that "transition" or that "Auditory Hallucination," that voice IN the head
that is basically YOU awake or In a trance, Or a long suppressed Rant boiling over to
a new clarity, in to a poem. (It could happen!) The mad gone sane, the sane without a clue
or a care, stuck in the amber of all that bureaucracy.

The inmates in the emergency ward ( NYC it self is an asylum some say) explaining the
method you must employ to get your med's and how to neutralize them so you can
actually leave the hospital alive and intact "not a victim of Psycho surgery" or in a
chemical straight jacket.

Yes folks there were actually X Nazis, lots of them, in the CIA. They admit it, but they
are dead, no? Yes there is and always has been a shadow government, so what? You
likely won't ever know if you are real lucky .

Seneca was the tutor of Nero and in the end Nero, his student, had him kill himself
shortly before He, Nero, was to do the same. All civilizations have at their core a hubris
that is ultimately toxic. And that arrogance, most can perceive but choose to ignore, may
in our time come crashing down as the guy in the foil hat made from pieced together
Dolly Madison Pie Plates with flies buzzing around his head claiming That The president
wanted Pearl Harbor to be bombed! Or china got their Atomic Bombs from the sale of
Heroin during the 60's, dances a Bo Jangles tat-too on an invisible plank & drops
invisibly into oblivion singing I told you so, I told you so...

Hey, we are all on a plank of some sort we may not see and the guy with the scimitar and
that fake pirate eye patch poking us in the back and nudging us forward inch by inch
toward a visible emotional abyss may be our boss, not some conspiratorial evil maniac,
just a guy who can perceive you or me as lesser and act accordingly.

Nothing more sinister than not following the "golden rule." Ah, but that is politics in a
nut shell. Mind control mass culture one-on-one, what's the difference? We are ultimately
held by fact of free will or at least a memory of it. One must act and think in some
fashion. Who should our actions benefit, ourselves alone or all society? We alone can
choose. If we are still ambulatory and cognitive, we still have a chance to get it right .

This thing was an excerpt of the Story of My Life but
from the point of view of the  "STARS "in my life ,not
that I consider them as Stars or evan as important at all
to me at my age ... I am the Star In MY  Life ...

I am learning something "New Every day weather I like it or not ."

Lee , first off I  just got a Laser printer SO I printed it,
with all of it's inaccuracies some so simple even I found
the typos "SD  instead of LSD and that felt good .
I never believe any thing from any one or any thing.
A groups calling it self "Somethingthingspecial .Org"
or biblebelievers.org first off that says " WE know something
more real than what you already know and you got believe it
or you will go to hell or what ever!!".. Speaking of go to hell
or what ever!!
There is a Web domain called hell.com there in the email biz
a .com they say never tell any one about them they're exclusive
but I just typed the name to there Back door one day ans kept
poking around and they gave me a membership not e-mail but the
privilege to access there stuff which is engaging . But with me
seriously trying to make a REAL WEBSITE OF MY OWN
I find no time to visit there stuff ,they send me notices from HELL...

So that's the serendipitous truth I wasn't LOOKING For DOPE INC.
but that stuff is " almost arcuate and with a lot of work will be a OK
Templet for something I have been meaning to write fore along time
and never got around to . It's odd to see that D.H. Laurence is held
in such low esteem by La Roach  & Co I guess because there still-hung

of Colonialism ...
Be well CM3 PS: How is it going with that house guest

THE AQUARIAN CONSPIRACY: FACT OR FICTION?

There is a sizeable portion of the otherwise reading population that refuses to look at ANYTHING
connected to Lyndon Larouche. In its most acute form, this intellectual close-mindedness centers
primarily on his lack of what some believe is an essential positive regard for the British royalty.
Perhaps the most "outlandish"OR "true-blue" publication has been Chapter VII of EIR,
DOPE, INC. (3rd Ed. 1992). Following

the chapter is a fragmentary chronology of events.
True or false. You decide for yourself.

This Week - from Bob Woods, NewMedia Managing Editor

In our weekly review, we take a look at a neato device that allows you to
copy files between computers. Best thing of all? It fits on a keychain!
Beware the company's claims of PC-to-Mac compatibility, though. We have
that plus a bunch of advertising/marketing news and Microsoft's latest

Also, Microsoft supports the separation of content and site design, with
its new Content Management Server--we'll have a preview. Also, we'll look
a successor to VRML, a cheap (read: inexpensive) Flash creation tool, and
free MP3 streaming technology. All of that and more in Design/Development.

In Technology, a new worm that's like Code Red is crawling across the Net.
Problem is, it has a payload that's more destructive than Code Red -- we
